Maestro Dr. Jindong Cai established the Maestro's Fund upon his appointment as Music Director of El CaminoYouth Symphony. An internationally acclaimed conductor, scholar, and music educator, Dr. Cai is also a recognized advocate of cross-cultural collaborations. It is this latter element that has proven to be at the core of ECYS's next major phase of development as a champion of music education, as well as a presenter of exceptional concerts for the community and public at large. Dr. Cai's vision is to develop innovative projects that foster creative partnerships with renowned artists from different disciplines and cultural backgrounds, to enlarge our young musician's ideas of what constitutes classical music. As well, Dr. Cai feels that performing alongside and learning from such artists can be a transforming educational and artistic experience for our students.

Thanks to the generosity of Maestro's Fund donors, our young musicians have performed side-by-side with acclaimed artists such as erhu soloist Jiebing Chen, composer Tan Dun, Van Cliburn Gold Medal recipient Jon Nakamatsu, and, in our 2017-18 season, Emmy Award winning composer Van Ahn Vo, and jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti. Dr. Cai and each of our guest artists work with and guide our students, challenging them to "raise the bar of their own expectations - always making sure that we help them to meet these goals." El Camino Youth Symphony is the only Bay Area youth orchestra that actively seeks and develops such creative partnerships, and is now recognized as one of the finest youth orchestras in the state. Your donation will help us continue to enrich the lives of our young musicians by giving them these kinds of unparalleled music learning experiences.
