Golden State Youth Orchestra

El Camino Youth Symphony has become Golden State Youth Orchestra.

As the former El Camino Youth Symphony became a widely recognized institution and began to travel internationally, the leadership felt the need for a new name to better identify our home as California -- the Golden State. While the name "El Camino" was familiar to the local public, it was often a cause of confusion for our overseas audiences, who falsely imagined we were an orchestra from Spain or Latin America. We are now Golden State Youth Orchestra, as memorialized by a proclamation issued by the Honorable Liz Kniss, Mayor of Palo Alto on April 7, 2018 (click here to view).

There will be a period of transition from old to new as we make all the necessary changes, so please bear with us as we make this adjustment together. We will have a new website soon, our e-mail addresses will change, and so on. Our dedicated staff is the same, our reputable faculty is the same, and our mission to nurture, challenge, and shape the next generation of musicians remains unchanged. We are excited and looking forward to the future by carrying the great history of ECYS into the next 50 years and beyond as Golden State Youth Orchestra!

Golden State Youth Orchestra is excited to announce the hiring of Dr. Ondine Young! Dr. Young is joining the faculty as the Conductor of the Chamber Players and Camerata Orchestras starting this Fall. She will also direct the string classes - Beginning Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra - at the Summer Music Conservatory.

Dr. Young is a busy performer/musical director of many Bay Area organizations including: Piedmont East Bay Children's choirs (training); the Crowden School of Music (strings); Stern Grove (Kidstage), First United Methodist Church San Leandro (choir director); Philharmonia Baroque, Albany Consort, Sacramento Baroque, Jubilate, San Francisco Early Music Society, Cantare, WAVE, Junior Bach, Arlington Arts music studio (Violin/viola/voice/keyboards) and other local institutions.

Ondine studied violin/viola/choral/orchestral conducting/performance practice at the University of California Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara; and earned a doctoral degree at the University of Southern California in choral conducting and early music performance.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Young to Golden State Youth Orchestra!

It's not too late to audition for the

In addition, all musicians interested in the Summer Conservatory will be heard, regardless of the instrument.
